3 Healthy Calorie Rich + Storable - Weight Gaining Snack Ideas!

Keep Munching On The Go - A Simple Weight Gain Snacks List

Let me admit it. Being a lazy person myself, the process of cooking can sometimes get in my way of having more meals during a day. If you're like me and are looking for some easy and effective storable + on the go snacks, this post can be really helpful for you.

Below are 3 easy & effective snack ideas which can be prepared in advance so that you can have it whenever your mind feels to do so. Personally, I stay away from ready-made store-bought products (those bakery items rarely have an effect on me - most of the times) as I am pretty much worried about the preservatives and other ingredients that go into the product. The snacks I share here can be prepared at your home by yourself and store it for a week or more.

Snack Them Down!

1. Peanut Butter Cookies- Peanut butter is so much rich in calories and protein so it would be a really good thing if you can prepare it and store it for later use.

I highly recommend you to try preparing them at home so that you can substitute the all purpose flour with Wheat flour and make it healthy in every possible manner.

2. Potato Chips - Potatoes are most people's favorite. I haven't met any, who dislike potatoes. They are again rich in calories. Store plenty of potato chips and eat mashed potatoes whenever you can. And of course, for an Indian version, you can always try Aloo Bujia ( ready-made product that is available in the market but you can make it at home too)

3. Roasted chickpeas or Other nuts of your taste:-

Bake some cooked chickpeas in your oven with your favorite spices ( Garlic, Olive oil, Oregano...) and a yummy snack is ready!  Do keep an eye on it after every while so that it doesn’t burn. Try the roasted variety always so as to stay healthy.

Peanuts, almonds, walnuts can all be tried as well so as you don't get bored with the taste.

Into a pressure cooker, add the washed, lentil, water, salt, cumin, onion, and tomatoes and cook until 2 whistles.

Top 5 Dairy Products a Weight Gainer Should Definitely Try!

My Favorite 5 Dairy Products for Weight Gain! ( Sorry, no ice creams in the list)

Hey everyone,
When you're determined to gain weight, it is obvious that you are into some sort of a dilemma on deciding what sort of food you should have in your diet. Yeah, I am talking about 'healthy weight gain' and not the accumulation of fats.

top five diary products for weight gain

Here are some must have dairy products you should keep in stock if you're opting for weight gain. Dairy products can be really helpful to lend you enough protein for the day. However, make sure you stay in the limit with the use of these products ( after considering workout plans).

Top 5 milk products for fast weight gain

1. Butter:-

Top 5 milk products for fast weight gain 2Butter is healthy in moderation because it has lots of healthy saturated fats in it. Add butter to your meals by replacing oil in your recipes with it or use it to top your bread or roti's to have an additional gain. It is yummy and smells heavenly.

I usually do not use more than 2 tablespoons a day unless I am baking a brownie, cake or cookie sort of things.

2. Ghee/ clarified butter:-

Top 5 milk products for fast weight gain gheeGhee is a staple ingredient in most of the Indian households. You should've it too if you are opting for weight gain. I have personally tried and saw the results myself after having enough ghee in my diet. I restrict the use of ghee to three teaspoons per day. It is said that people with high cholesterol levels should not consume ghee more than 10 percent of their total calorie intake.

Like any clarified butter, ghee is composed almost entirely of fat, 62% of which consists of saturated fats; the nutrition facts label found on bottled cow's ghee produced in the United States indicates 8 mg of cholesterol per teaspoon.Source

3. Paneer:-

Paneer is a cheese common in South Asia made by curdling milk with lemon juice/vinegar/curd. This can be easily made at home as well. (You can check out various recipes across blogs and videos on youtube for reference).

Make curries, tikkas, fried rice, use it for your sandwich etc. The options are many and you can experiment what acts the best for your taste buds!Paneer contains 20 grams of fat per 100 grams. I usually have around 100 grams of it in my serving meal.

4. Cheese:-
There are plenty of cheese varieties available and you can use it in your diet to gain some extra pounds.! Make sure not to OVERLOAD yourself, though! I usually do not have more than 100 - 120 grams of it a day.

5. Curd/ Yogurt:-

If you are an Indian, you will probably have it as a part of your regular meals already. You can also try flavored yogurt, or prepare shrikhand, lassi, buttermilk etc at home to bring a change in your diet. Even a cup of low-fat plain yogurt has 13 g of protein content. I usually have it mostly as a substitute (by preparing a quick lassi) for my daily juice glass.

All of the above dairy products have really helped me with my weight gain journey and that is the sole reason why I am preparing this post. So please don't hesitate to use them on moderate levels in your food.

Hope you have found the post useful, if so then please subscribe to my blog to do not skip further useful posts.

Power- Packed Special Banana & Peanut Drink Recipe :-

I am sharing a very quick yet yummy weight gaining breakfast drink today. You can have it to compensate or accompany with a snack too. It is so filling, nutritious and delicious recipe as well! But before I share the secrets, make sure you 'subscribe to my blog' by clicking on the link near to this post. This way  you don't miss any of my future posts :) Now let us begin with the recipe.

Ingredients:-

Poha/Aval/Flattened(Beaten)Rice - 1/4 cup (270 calories in 1 cup)
Small banana - 2 no.s (or use 1 large banana)
Peanuts - 1/4 cup ( beat it to pieces and leave the skin behind)
Sugar- as needed
Horlicks/ Boost- 2 tbsp
Freezed milk- around 1 1/2 cups
(I suggest you to use the frozen milk- itself for its icecream kind of texture)

N.B:- For freezing milk, just leave the milk packet as it is in the freezer for about 6-8 hours. Once it is completely freezed, use a meat tendiser or even your rolling pin to mash it up and you are ready to go! ✌

Procedure:-
1) Dry roast the Poha/aval/beaten rice over a low flame stirring continuously. When you take a piece of aval between your fingers, you should be able to break it with sound. That's when you know it's ready. You can store the poha this way in an airtight container so the next time you make this recipe, there is no cooking involved!

2) Take a blender and add the (beaten up) frozen milk, bananas, Horlicks and sugar into it. Blend it to a smooth paste.

Tip: Try not to substitute frozen milk with cold milk because the texture and the taste kind of seems to be different for me. When you are adding frozen milk, it is almost like eating an icecream or a dessert!

3) Take a serving glass and add some of the roasted Poha and crushed peanuts into it (you can also add tuti fruti, cherries, chopped nuts as well). Now, add the banana shake to it. Top it up with the rest of the poha and peanuts. Serve chilled. If you prefer, you can also top it with icecream or any of your favorite flavoured syrups.

This is a typical Malabar (a region in Kerala, India) recipe and I find it quite appealing for all of us who are into a weight gain track.

You can imagine how power packed the drink is! Do try to add a serving into your daily diet. You can even blend peanuts! Go nuts :-P

Spinach & Paneer Stir Fried Masala

I have been suffering from anemia since some past 6 years. Though I have managed to get rid of it for some time, it keeps returning to me after a while. I used to feel all fatigue and incapable of doing things for no peculiar reason! It is seriously one of the bad things to happen to a lady! Recently, I was going through a regional health magazine and that was how I knew that I HAVE to include spinach into my diet as they are the BEST ingredient to choose from for having your blood counts to normal.

I love paneer and as I had some milk in the fridge to be used up before expiry, I decided to make some paneer out of it. We also have some spinach growing in my mom’s vegetable garden and so I had no reasons to give spinach a miss. I tried out this recipe and it was yummy and of course healthy too.

So here are the ingredients and the detailed recipe.

Ingredients:-

  1. Spinach- 1 cup
  2. Crumbled Paneer-1/2 cup
  3. Onion- 1 small
  4. Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
  5. Ripe tomato (optional) – ½ of the medium
  6. Oil/butter – 2 teaspoon
  7. Garam masala – 1 tsp
  8. Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
  9. Chilly powder – ½ tsp
  10. Salt – to taste

Procedure:
Step 1: Wash spinach very well and drain it. Slice or chop them according to your preference.

Crumble the paneer and keep it aside.

Step 2: Place a frying pan on the stove and add oil or butter, add the cumin and allow it to crack, add the onion, salt, turmeric, tomato and chilly powder. Stir on low flame for a few minutes and add the spinach leaves and the garam masala.

Step 3: Add ¼ cup of water and close it with a lid and leave on medium to low flame for a few minutes. When the masala is still wet, add in the paneer, and stir for a few minutes. Switch off the flame and serve.
